Great classic gain tones kick in at about 4-5 and retain clarity up through about 6-8 with my strat. I have a Marshall JVM 205 and 1960 cab and have not used it in awhile due to this little gem. Wow.
It is a solidly built case, with the classic Marshall look.
Build quality is what you would expect from Marshall, top quality. It's great looks are known and envied worldwide. The DSL15 and DSL40 were both too loud, but this 5-watter with the 1-watt function is perfect. I've had this amp for a few weeks now and I'm really enjoying it. after 2 it starts to break up and get crunchy. I've replaced all the tubes and put a Creamback speaker inside which helped at the lower watt setting. I was willing to experiment with non-Fender within reason. Very very slight idle noise but not distracting at all. The compact size means it is very portable, but doesn’t mean it isn’t loud. This is a true and pure Rock and Roll amp. This combo is awesome bright and agresive. You can play all your classic rock riffs on this little amp. The other features are exactly the same, though Marshall added some additional equalisation for the reverb and moved the power output switch to the front (a logical touch). It’s a nice feature that works really well. for my studio which I'm going to enjoy big time. Everything you love about Sweetwater in the palm of your hand.
I was blown away by just how great that Marshall tone is from such a small unit. I pullrd the stock ECC83's and replaced V1, V3 & V4 with GT/JJ ECC83's and a JAN Philips 5751 in V2 to drop the drive gain a tad.
Plenty loud for 5 watts. Still too loud.
Buy one from Sweetwater, you won't be sorry! I'm a happy customer. I mostly play at home , and do some jamming with some friends.
The DSL5C is a bad little amp, beautiful cleans, beautiful distortion, sounds AWESOME when you plug a Les Paul into it.
amzn_assoc_marketplace = "amazon"; It has a really nice clean sound and the lead channel covers everything from blues to AC/DC to Metallica. amzn_assoc_linkid = "f207311c27d3a788460781e74cd0079b"; It’s a simple list of features that ticks basically every box (except the one I just highlighted above). I have been playing electric guitar since 1979. The 1 watt mode means that you can push the volume and gain up, getting the tone you want – but at bedroom friendly levels. Hit that "Deep Switch" and oh ya, loud deep thumping power! Marshall is arguably the biggest name in amps.
DSL15C (2012) Take it up a notch with this 15W combo. I actually kept checking to see if I was using the neck pickup by mistake. amzn_assoc_design = "enhanced_links"; Hey amp designers! /* Add your own MailChimp form style overrides in your site stylesheet or in this style block. amzn_assoc_region = "US"; My best friends Tony and Susan swore there was nothing better than Marshall stacks, so I had little to lose. I bought it for it's size and the web reviews particularly Mitch's review at Sweetwater. Once again, it depends on the style and tone that you’re after. At 15 watts it will ring your ears and keep up, volume wise, with any drummer. The Pentode/Triode switching is perfect to allow for lower volume practice. The digital spring reverb is ok but not great. This surprising little combo puts that power in your hands. I found that when playing with the emulated line out through headphones, the gain is obviously not as nice. This is a really great amp. I knew in order to get that 40, or even 20 Watt Tone, I couldn't be playing into the wee hours of the night without bothering the neighbors. It can get loud enough to make it fun and then you can cut the volume, keep the tones and not drive everyone else in the house crazy. For example, if you have a Les Paul or similar heavy and thick sounding guitar, you might like to brighten up the tone by turning off the Deep setting.
From shimmering cleans to punchy distorted overdrives, the DSL allows you to easily flex the sound to your playing styles. I put a strat, tele, les paul, hamer and a 6 string banjo through it and it sounds better than I expected. With the right looks and sounds, the DSL15C combo is a decent 'first proper amp' that many younger players will enjoy. Right know Im learning and reading a lot about the eq sections in amps.
