Vocabulary development during school years is an important aspect of learning, particularly for EALD students or students from disadvantaged backgrounds, who may start school with a limited vocabulary in English.
I was excited to learn about this concept for two reasons: 1) time pressure and 2) transferability.
As teachers, we know that a robust vocabulary supports reading comprehension and reinforces understanding of new and difficult texts. I call it Focus on Five.
