Rooms at Colditz are dorm rooms with bunk beds sleeping four or six people, all rooms are ensuite. We actually found that getting into Colditz was harder than getting out. The hostel is in the former Kommandantur. Standard youth hostel but nice because it's all shiny new. In the event the war ended and the glider was not needed. The rooms are a bit spartan compared to hotel rooms, but they're perfectly OK. When restoring your burnt down castle what could be finer than to install a zoo in the back garden? You can get an ice-cream on the way in the square if it's hot. The icing on the cake was the extended tour in the morning with our guide Steffi, and we even got into Douglas Bader's and Pat Reid's old rooms. It made me laugh and it’s such a great idea for a trip with teens, plus a big dollop of nostalgia for parents. Recently refurbished hostel - friendly, well equipped and clean.
