Both Dinah and Joseph end up in Egypt, and while we follow primarily the life if Dinah, midwife and slave to a decent Egyptian family, Joseph becomes a sort of shady figure in the Egyptian world. This is a significant achievement of Diamants which attests to her power as a novelist.
